Obama Is A Dolt

If there is a Pulitzer for blog writing, John Hinderaker at Powerline should get the award for his writings on the Obama tire inflation gaffe. He nails the initial details here:

ANWR: 10 billion barrels
Outer Continental Shelf: 18 billion barrels (estimated; the actual total is undoubtedly much higher, since exploration has been banned)
Oil shale: 1 trillion barrels

So, on the above assumptions, it would take only 11,308 years of proper tire inflation to equal "all the oil that they're talking about getting off drilling."

Then he does some terrific research in dismantling the MSM's attempts to prop up Obama's nonsense here:

Earth to Michael Grunwald: that isn't what happened. The EIA was wrong. Currently crude oil is at around $120 per barrel, not $60. At the elevated prices we are now experiencing and are expected to experience in the future, vastly greater quantities of OCS oil (or ANWR oil, or shale oil) can profitably be exploited, and those resources can make a vastly greater contribution to our economic well-being.

Today, Hinderaker drives the shiv in to the bone, demonstrating just what a buffoon Obama has shown himself to be:

Second, Obama's claim that "every expert" says that tire inflation would "reduce our oil consumption by 3 to 4 percent" is ridiculous. No expert says any such thing. What experts do say is that properly inflated tires can improve gas mileage by approximately 3 percent compared to grossly underinflated tires. But since most people know this and inflate their tires, the actual potential savings is some much smaller amount. Moreover, the U.S. consumes around 20.7 million barrels of petroleum per day. Only about 9.3 million barrels per day are used in motor vehicles. So a 3 percent improvement in automobile mileage would correspond, at best, to a 1.3 percent reduction in total oil consumption.
Read all three of these posts - this is great, original research that you won't find elsewhere. Perhaps Obama should read them, too, and stop making such a fool of himself.

Wait! where's our ubergenius Knuth? She could write legislation about such a tire inflation crisis and we all could have kiosks restroom stops and tire checks along the roadways:mandated by government of course.
