Sorry Charlie!

During Charlie Gibson's recent interview with Governor Sarah Palin, he tried to play "gotcha". He tried to get Palin to answer "yes" or "no" to several seemingly simple questions.

But, these questions were traps. Gibson would often ask a question with a flawed premis. If Palin answered "yes" or "no" – gotcha! Gibson would have that sound-bite that Democrats could use to demean Palin with one constituency or another.

If Palin didn't give a direct answer and tried to address the premise, viewers might think she was dancing around the question as politicians often do. This was part of the trap. Many casual viewers perceive the reporter to be honest and the politician less so. They would have no reason to suspect that the reporter was the one dancing around the truth.

For example. Democrats and the mainstream media (I know, it's hard to tell them apart) desperately want to paint Palin as a radical religious extremist. No, not a radical Islamic extremist. Worse. A Christian. Here is one of Gibson's gotcha attempts:

Gibson: You said recently, in your old church, "our national leaders are sending our soldiers on a task that is from God". Are we fighting a Holy War?

Palin: You know, I don't know if that was my exact quote..."

Gibson: Exact words.
Gibson was rather assertive in declaring "exact words". But, Gibson was doing his own cancan with the truth. By asking if we are fighting a Holy War, Gibson completely misrepresented what Palin had said.

Governor Palin never claimed that God is on our side in the war. Rather, she ask that we pray to be on God's side.

Watch the exchange with Gibson, her comments in her church, and some historical perspective in the video below:

It's a real shame that once proud members of the news media have reduced themselves to partisan games to help "their side" win the White House.

Hey Charlie!
