The Night Satveer Squirmed

What a pathetic scene.

Satveer Chaudhary apologizing to his constituents ... saying he had made no ethical lapse ... saying he made a mistake and was sorry ... and then telling us what an outstanding upright guy he is.

The scene was Thursday night at the Fridley Community Center. A hastily called community meeting with the Democrat Central Committee serving as a kind of jury. Believe me, sparks flew. Some people supported him, some were against. But emotions were high.

One participant hit the nail on the head -- saying the whole issue was not about fishing or conservation or some technical fault by Satveer -- but a question of ethics, integrity and trust.

Another attendee -- who appeared to be a Central Committee Member -- openly asked Satveer, that all things considered, would he offer his resignation?

Satveer was not at his best. He alternately touted his achievements while attacking Republicans, the Republican endorsed candidate for Governor, and the sitting Governor. He even attacked his Republican opponent, Gina Bauman, revealing more about himself than Gina. The Democrats in attendance were not impressed. This was not the time. Satveer did not get it.

Satveer attacked Gina Bauman for being in favor of the Marriage Amendment. I don't think this helped his case. Those in attendance looked for all the world like parents who raised their kids with traditional values. Made you wonder just who Satveer had been listening to. Surely not the people in his own district.

The whole thing was a chance for Satveer to explain himself and maybe save his campaign. He just may have shot himself in the foot.

The man is a disgrace to the district and the DFL. His arrogance and sense of entitlement to the position came through loud and clear that to him it's all about him.

His psuedo defense that some GOPers have ethical problems more serious than his was pathetic and laughable at the same time. He couldn't even get the facts straight before he tried to spin them in his "yeah I screwed up but look how much worse these people are" defense.

Senator Chaudhary must go. Given the size of his ego I can't believe he will not run even if the DFL pulls his endorsement, so it will be up to the voters of his District to make sure it happens.

His performance last night was in many ways worse than the ethical lapse he committed. It revealed a total lack of character that we cannot afford in someone who represents us in all of the serious matters that come up at the legislature.

Very helpful report, Force50 -- sounds like Satveer covered himself in glory again.

Steve, you are 100% correct. He is a disgrace. And I'm betting you're right -- he'll probably run in the primary if the DFL pulls their endorsement.
